Living car-free is a central part of life in Calgary for many. Yet, despite Calgary’s proximity to the Rocky Mountains, a passenger rail connection to the mountains remains unavailable, a core challenge for Calgarians wanting to explore their own backyard. Welcome to Car-Free in the Rockies, my repository dedicated to exploring Alberta’s Rocky Mountains from Calgary without needing to own a vehicle. While it’s not as straightforward or easy as it should be, hiking, scrambling, snowshoeing, mountaineering, and more are possible (and sometimes surprisingly accessible) from Calgary without needing to own a vehicle.
