This is my independent map of Calgary, Canada's connected cycling pathways, bike lanes, trails, and on-street routes. Calgary has the most extensive pathway and bikeway network in North America. It comprises approximately 1,100 km of paved pathways and protected on-street cycle tracks, 28 km of protected on-street bike lanes, 45 km of painted bike lanes, and 96 km of gravel or compacted dirt trails. This map differs from algorithmically plotted or policy-derived maps, such as those available from the City of Calgary or GIS services, because it is hand-plotted, with over 5,500 data points, based on real-world conditions and buildouts. This approach introduces some routing variations and provides a sharper representation of real-world conditions. The map can be viewed directly through the embedded interactive widget, or opened within Google Maps or Google Earth on the web or mobile app for custom routing and detailed viewing. The dataset is also available to download as a KML or KMZ file for import into Strava, GPS devices, or other mapping software.

Red lines
Paved off-street multi-use pathways.

Grey lines
Lower traffic streets, shared with cars, that connect bike infrastructure.
Typically under one kilometre in length.
Typically signed up to 40 km/h.
Arterials and intersections with slip lanes are usually avoided.
"Bikeway" signage, sharrows, or traffic calming are sometimes present.
Purple lines
Paved sidewalk connections linking bike infrastructure.
Typically under 100 metres in length.
Yield to pedestrians.
Bylaws may require you to walk your bike.
Brown lines
Gravel multi-use trails.
Compacted dirt multi-use trails.
May not be suitable for all gear or conditions.
